The George Institute has been named as one of 13 Australian organizations to receive an Athena SWAN Bronze Institution Award recognizing gender equity and diversity in the workforce. Part of the Science in Australia Gender Equity (SAGE) initiative, this is Australia’s gender equity program for higher education and research organizations in the medical sector.

The award represents a well-deserved recognition of the Institute’s work in advancing gender equity and diversity, and the organization’s constant efforts to improve the environment for all staff. A bronze award is the highest possible award for organizations entering the program with silver and gold awards achievable only in subsequent years.

“The process included a two-year analysis of data with planning for action that required the Institute to recognize and address challenges around gender equity and inclusivity,” said Dr. Bruce Neal, Executive Director, The George Institute Australia .   “Many thanks to Vesna Todorovski, Parisa Glass and the broader team that led this work. While this a tremendous start, our Athena SWAN submission included a four-year action plan to further improve gender equity and inclusivity both here in Australia and beyond,” Neal added.
